The top 10

Ten grinders. Three bands.

Every one of these makes great coffee. The wrong one for your volume runs hot, drifts through the rush and gets bought twice. Pick your band first, then pick from it.

Under 150 a day

64 to 65mm flat burrs on a timer do the job. Under 100 a day, buy the F64 E or the Super Jolly and put the difference toward your second grinder.

How we picked them

Every grinder here is a current model you can buy new in Australia, with service in WA. We sorted them by how many coffees a day each one handles before it runs hot, then priced them at recommended retail. All ten are commercial espresso grinders with flat or conical burrs from 64mm up, on a timer or grind by weight. Where we've marked a pick, it's the one we'd buy at that volume.

Written by the Brother of Mine wholesale team in Port Kennedy, WA. We've roasted for Perth cafes since 2017.

Prices are recommended retail including GST, from the makers' Australian distributors and Mazzer's own Australian shop. They move, so ask us for today's number before you budget on one.

Before you pay

Three things nobody tells you.

Buy two

House blend on one, decaf or a guest coffee on the other. When one goes in for service, the other carries the house. Your second grinder can be one band smaller.

Over 200 a day, weigh it

A timer drifts about half a gram a dose. At 200 coffees a day that's 36kg a year in the knock box, around $1,800 of coffee. Grind by weight costs about $1,000 more.

Ask about the burrs

What are they rated for in kilos, and what does a fitted set cost? Those two numbers turn the price on the quote into the real price.

The rest is in the buying guide: burrs, heat, the waste maths, burr costs over five years, cleaning and the 10 questions to ask before you sign. A 12 minute read.
